A very belated post about the D-Day -- April 21st 2013

Wow! April 21st and all I remember is waking up early in the morning, getting all my stuff ready, last minute waxing and bleaching :), trying to have the best bath I've had in ages and all this amidst so many people chitty chatting, non-stop phone calls and last minute questions from a million people. In spite of all this, I took a quiet moment to write a letter to JP to let him know before the wedding that I had no cold feet and was absolutely at peace in my heart and was waiting to be married and start our new life together.

I decided to dress up at the parlor in order to have my own privacy and enjoy the quiet time before the big celebrations lined up that evening. I chose to get dressed up by Alice Weston of Cuts & Curls in Kilpauk. Big thanks to her and her sense of taste and style, I did not look overdone or too flashy! Once I got ready, off I went to my house to get blessings and prayers. At the same time, JP got ready and left home to the church. He then sent me our wedding car (A Jaguar :) .... t'was JP's decision) to pick me up and bring me to church. I remember the first moment I saw JP - all dressed up and so handsome with his groomsmen waiting for me.
The church service was an absolute blessing for us and everyone else that atended it. Big thanks to the Perambur Youth choir, Fr Joe Andrew and the rest of the priests, Andrea for the decorations and the rest of the folks who helped us out. Both of us had to admit, it was our paparazzi day. An hour of photo session and people were still clicking pics of us at the church. We rushed to change dresses and get ready for the reception. It was held at Don Bosco, Egmore which happened to be JP's alumni as well. We got late for the reception due to the extended photo session that happened at church. Thankfully, our gathering hung around patiently for us and welcomed us with a standing ovation as we walked in. The rest of the evening was tiring coz we had to stand the whole time to greet everyone that came on stage to wish us. We got several compliments from everyone about the car, decor, service, food and not to forget the dresses (oh well, the gown had to come out good coz it was in planning process since I was in Class 2, lol). But it was an evening I will never, ever forget .... lots of love, happiness and smiles and you ponder and think .... this is how life is meant to be - right? We came home, chatted with our siblings and retired to our rooms around 1 am early morning. Finally, the moment of us being together happened ... we spent it looking at the first sneak peek of pictures that friends had posted on FB and sent to us. A first hug and a gentle kiss and we fell flat out snoring next to each other exhausted but exhilarated at the end of the day :)

Before, I wind up this post, I really want to thank both our parents, our super smart siblings &
family and our 'always there for you' friends for giving us the wedding that we dreamed of. Our April 21st would not have been possible without each of your part in it.

Who are the happy couples?

It is a well known fact that GG and I have different personalities. Today, GG sent me this lovely card which will serve me and her as a reminder for years to come :)

Gil - my new best friend for life

One doesn't change their best friends for life list very often. The list will more or less be the same for years. But, one might hope to make it longer, but not shorter. I've been blessed with really good friends for life. Some of them have been with me for a very very long time now and I'm very lucky to add one more person to that list. :) My newest best friend for life - GG

GG was born in Kuwait and after spending her initial days (...planning the war... J/K) there, she came back to CHN and continued her schooling in SHY. After spending nearly a decade as the naughty queen of the  boarding school, she returned back to CHN to complete her high school and also her bachelors. After a few years of living with her family, she decided to move to the USA to do Masters. Right after graduation, she worked for RB for nearly 4 years traveling places and countries. After having put in countless hours at work, GG decided to take a break and get back to her loved ones. So she quit her job and went back to CHN which is when the search for her Mr. Right began and so that's how she found me :D

The first time I saw her profile was when I was at a friend's place having dinner. My dad e-mailed her profile to me and asked if I liked her. My instant reaction after reading through her about me section was that, it will be a good match and I heard a voice somewhere tell me that she might be the one (.... light bulbs and alarm bells ringing!!!!!). And, yes indeed she was. :D Our first chat session lasted for nearly 4 hours and at the end I was even more hopeful that this will work out. Our second chat wasn't all that great, with both of us getting off the wrong foot and misunderstanding each other. Patience prevailed and since the third day, we both have been good buddies ever since. After our first week, we felt that there was very little in common and we had aplenty to explore of each other's lives. But, as time rolled on, we were pleasantly surprised to realize how much we had in common.

Everyday is a reminder to me of her pure friendship, genuineness, brutal honestly and candor. GG knows what she loves, dislikes and what she wants. She is also very brave and stands her grounds with things she believes in. She has a variety of interests from food, colors, clothes, travel to dancing, singing, music and movies. She also loves being on stage and performing. She is full of life and that makes my life even more colorful (....I was usually a black, grey or dark green type of guy). She is extremely spiritual and religious but in a sane way that I can put up with. GG always talks about her anger issues and she is also her first critic and that's one of the attributes that I love about her. She always wants to become a better human being. :) Oh I almost forgot, she loves non-veg and can't live without it.

One of the things we both share is our interest towards making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. She wants to help old people feel that they're loved and cared for. She also believes in donating 10% of her monthly paychecks. I can't ask for a better woman, can I? ;o-)

Every man has his own dreams of the type of woman he would want to marry. I'm extremely fortunate to have GG in my life, she is just everything I wanted.

My big man!

Alright, so assuming that we have piqued your interest enough to find out more about us, let me present to you the first character of this blog - my best friend and better half for life, JP. 'You will know him when you see him' was a  good friend's advice to me on finding the right guy. He was absolutely correct.  I've known JP now for a  mere 3 months, but  it almost seems and feels like a lifetime. Put in a nutshell, JP is super caring, patient, understanding and very sensitive to people's needs (yea, we are opposites in this regard).

He is your typical next door Chennai guy having lived there for the most part of his life. He has his MS in  Information Technology and currently works for a fruit company (yup, sadly the same company whose products I swore I would never use) :( Which reminds me that I am right now typing this using an Ipad, lol. The guy is passionate about two things - dogs and making a difference in people's lives. While at first, he may come across as a serious person, he can crack you up with his subtle sense of humor once you get to know him. He loves working (eww!), trance music, action packed movies and staying fit and healthy - now, that's a lot to put up with! :)I also have to mention that he has impressed me with his one liners and short poems from time to time. So stay tuned coz I expect a poem to be published very soon here :) Oh and before I forget, JP says he is very conscious in the midst of people, stage shy and cannot dance. I hope all my friends and family are noting this and can expect a leg shake or two April 21 st :)

Well, I think that is enough said for now and will check every now n then to see if I can make changes to anything I  might have mentioned wrong ... Naah! Jz joking.

A journey is about to begin

Aloha!

Welcome to GG's and JP's blog.  Fearing the apocalyptic theories, JP did not want to die alone. So 5 weeks before the proposed doomsday, on November 16, 2012, he flew down to India, sat next to GG and asked her if she was willing to begin a journey together. Even though GG was taken aback by the quick turn of events, she crazily trusted her friend and agreed to take off.  There, it started!

This blog is completely GG's idea and like a good friend JP immediately agreed to post thoughts, updates, rants, discussions and quips about their life together. For now, this blog will feature posts from  GG and JP as they prepare for their big day.

Are you wondering who the heck GG and JP are? Well, the honor of introducing our authors will be done by the besties.
